To win back the RM10 630 it costs more than a Honda City, you'd drive almost 198 000 km, nearly ten years at 20 000 km a year. And on a public fast charger, the EV costs more per kilometre than petrol. Our calculation, from published prices: BYD Dolphin vs Honda City 1.5. Petrol at the subsidized RM1.99 a litre (BUDI95, citizens) is 11.14 sen/km. Home charging on TNB's off-peak rate, counting every charge on the bill (energy + capacity + network = 41.83 sen/kWh), is 5.77 sen/km. On the standard tariff the break-even is 212 176 km. Gentari DC chargers (RM1.30–1.80 per kWh by site) cost 18–25 sen/km. Not counted: fuel adjustment, service tax and rebates on the electricity bill, insurance, servicing and tyres. Assumes 20 000 km a year. The Dolphin's price is a launch-era figure; resale values are for the Atto 3 / Dolphin and the Honda City, and the RM29 000 gap is our calculation.
