He declares the economy 'on a war footing,' says 'no sacrifice will be too great' in the fight against economic malpractice. Six years later, in 1979, he's the one standing in front of a firing squad, convicted of corruption and embezzlement. The man declaring war on malpractice becomes the malpractice he was fighting.
