@edifyandrescue: Your Words Will Acquit You or Condemn You Scripture (NKJV): "But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned." — Matthew 12:36-37 Jesus spoke these words to the Pharisees after they attributed His Spirit-empowered miracles to Satan (Matthew 12:24). These weren't careless slip-ups. They saw the work of God and deliberately called it evil. Jesus warned them that their words revealed what was truly in their hearts, and that God would hold every single one to account. That's the weight of verse 36. "Idle" here means careless, useless, empty, words spoken without thought of their weight before God. Not just profanity or gossip, but the casual dismissal of truth, the flippant joke about holy things, the text you send without thinking, the comment you drop online just to get a reaction. Jesus says none of it vanishes. It all gets accounted for. Now look at verse 37. "By your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned." That's not saying salvation is earned by talking right. Jesus is saying your words are evidence of what's actually in your heart. Remember what He said just two verses earlier: "Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks" (Matthew 12:34). Your words don't create your condition, they reveal it. Scripture gives us clear examples of both sides. Justified by words: The publican in Luke 18:13 stood far off, would not so much as lift his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast saying, "God, be merciful to me a sinner!" Jesus said that man went down to his house justified. His words were few, but they were honest, and they revealed a heart that knew it needed grace. Condemned by words: In Matthew 26:63-66, the high priest demanded Jesus answer whether He was the Christ, the Son of God. Jesus said, "It is as you said" and more, that they would see Him seated at the right hand of power and coming on the clouds. The high priest tore his robes and said, "He has spoken blasphemy!" and the council condemned Him to death. Their words condemned an innocent man because their hearts had already decided. Another one: In Numbers 14, the ten spies returned from Canaan and spread a bad report among the Israelites, saying the land devours its inhabitants and the people there are too great (v. 32-33). Their words spread fear and rebellion through the whole camp. God's judgment? That entire generation would die in the wilderness. Their idle, faithless words cost them the promised land. Think about how much of your day is spent producing words. Texts, group chats, comments, replies, conversations at work, things said to your spouse, your kids, your coworkers. How much of that is careless? Not evil on purpose, just idle. Dismissive. Sarcastic without love. Complaining without gratitude. Joking about things God takes seriously. Now flip it. What if your words were intentional? What if the text you send to your wife carried the same weight as a prayer? What if the way you spoke to your kids at the end of a long day was as deliberate as what you say from a pulpit? Ephesians 4:29 says, "Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers." That's not just about avoiding bad words. It's about making your words build up, because they're all going to be accounted for. The sobering truth is that God is listening to all of it. Not just the sermons, not just the prayers, but the group chat, the comment section, the kitchen table. Every idle word. But that same truth is also freedom. If your words can condemn you, they can also justify you, because words spoken from a heart that belongs to God will naturally reflect Him. "For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks." Fill the heart with His word, and the words will follow. Be blessed! -E&R #godisgood #God #christiantiktok #viralvideo #thankyougod
