This is very odd. I feel like you don’t know all of the details or your father was extremely gullible. When you start a business, then it doesn’t work out and make money in a year, that means there is no money to pay back. Businesses open and close with remaining debt all the time. It sounds like your dad wasn’t very savvy as to what was happening when the business was operating. I truly hope it works out for you in the way you need it to. Something just seems very off here with what info was given.

you need to stay and help your family out. that's more important than traveling which is not a good idea right now with the civil unrest all over. it's also about to be election time and things could get very bad very soon so it's best to be with your family.

Maybe this is Gods way of saying don’t go on your trip but help your family instead so you don’t come back to a broken family and your father in bad health due to working so much and feeling like he caused these issues. You seem passionate about helping so maybe that’s a sign

Call 211 and ask them for a referral to legal services. If it's truly a Ponzi and it's illegal get the PoPo involved and file fraud charges with them

Contact the Legal Aid Society. Explain what’s going on. They work for free. Postpone your mission & find at least a full time or 2 part time jobs to help your parents now. Just till things get straightened out. And look in the mirror & know that you are a great daughter. Priceless actually.

sounds like a common lawsuit. if it's in the contract then it should be taken to court. it will consume time but the longer your parents stall, the longer it will take for the case to settle

100% still get a lawyer who assesses the case and takes a percentage of winnings. Better than getting nothing

I’m a lawyer in multiple states, and I can confirm the other comments - you may be able to find legal counsel that would work on a pro bono publico (free “for the benefit of the public”) basis.

take that as a LESSON because 💩 like this is quite common, don't make any investments where you simply rely on trust into someone, no matter how sure it sounds

If his business partner actually has the money, and the contract is as you have described it, you will be able to get a lawyer on a contingent basis where he gets a percentage of what he can win for your father. And since the judgement will be against his partner, he will have to pay for your father's legal fees. In any event, don't wait too long because he can try to hide money or the statute of limitations will run out. There is also the possibility of placing a lien on the partners house to secure payment. Good luck.
