@science.nature: Would you swim for four hours in open ocean to save the people you love? 🌊 A thirteen year old boy named Austin Appelbee did that in Western Australia. His family was swept far out to sea while paddleboarding and kayaking. His mother asked him to swim to shore for help. He covered about four kilometres, then ran two more to call for help. Rescuers called his effort superhuman and a helicopter found his family that night. 🙏 The Royal Humane Society of Australasia later awarded him its Clarke Gold Medal for outstanding bravery. Imagine being a child trusted with your family’s survival. ❤️ Sometimes heroes are simply the ones who refuse to stop.
