I WAS SO HOPEFUL THIS WOULD BE THE ANSWER TO MY PRAYERS… BUT I’M AWAKE AT 6 AM IN LEVEL 8/10 PAIN. 💔😭 Yesterday afternoon, I had my first appointment at a new clinic for an occipital nerve block, hoping it would finally help break the migraine flare-up I’ve been trapped in since July 28. After months of relentless pain, I was ready for some relief. 🙏🏼 I was actually having a relatively low-pain day when I got the injection, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. The procedure itself was INCREDIBLY painful, even for someone like me who has a very high pain tolerance and has become far too familiar with living in pain. Immediately afterward, the right side of my head felt irritated, but something unexpected happened: the muscles at the base of my skull, which are normally extremely sore and tender, weren’t hurting when I pressed on them. I thought maybe that was a good sign. Unfortunately, I got zero sleep & around 5–5:30 AM, the pain came roaring back, and by the time I filmed this at 6 AM, I was back to approximately an 8/10. The pain starts at the back of my head and radiates up the right side toward my temple and behind my eye. My migraines sometimes switch sides, but this has been the predominant pattern during this flare-up. Right now, I’m icing my neck and trying to get through the pain. My usual rescue medications haven’t been helping, and I’m concerned about medication-overuse or rebound headaches from taking them too frequently. I’m exhausted, hurting, and honestly… heartbroken. I KNOW one treatment doesn’t necessarily tell the whole story. Some people get incredible relief from occipital nerve blocks, while others don’t respond as well. I have a follow-up appointment in two weeks, and I’ll be talking with my provider about what happened and what the next steps might be. But right now, I’m struggling. 💔 So many people from my church, my family, and this community have been praying for me. We were all hoping this might finally be an answer to those prayers. I don’t know what this means yet, and I’m starting to lose hope, and today I feel defeated. I never planned to share my chronic migraine journey on this page. I originally wanted to create a separate community for women navigating chronic illness, chronic pain, and invisible illnesses. But after sharing my first migraine video, I realized how many of you are going through something similar. Six months ago, I had to leave my career and move across the country to live with my parents because my health became so debilitating that I could no longer reliably work. Some days, I can barely get out of bed. During my worst stretches, I can only get up to use the bathroom, and my mom has to help care for me. I’m also uninsured and trying to figure out how to rebuild my financial independence while living with an illness that makes it impossible to predict what I’ll be capable of doing from one day to the next. That’s why I started this TikTok journey in the first place: to build a UGC and TikTok Shop business that would allow me to work around my chronic illness. Film on the good days. Edit when I can. Have content ready for the days when the pain takes everything out of me. I had a plan. I had hope. I was trying to find a way forward. And lately, it feels like every time I try to take a step forward, something knocks me back down. I’m sharing this because chronic illness isn’t just about physical pain. It’s the grief of losing the life you had, the fear of not knowing when you’ll feel better, the financial stress, the dependence on other people, and the heartbreak of hoping something will work and not knowing what happens if it doesn’t. If you’re living with chronic migraine, occipital neuralgia, chronic pain, or an invisible illness, please know that you’re not alone. You don’t have to pretend to be strong every single day. Sometimes, just getting through the day is enough. I’ll keep sharing my journey, because I know how isolating this can be. #ChronicMigraine #ChronicIllness
