A RESPECTFUL CALL FOR CULTURAL RECOGNITION — SCARLET HEART THAILAND
I am speaking up out of respect for Myanmar’s cultural heritage and its historical significance, not out of hostility toward Thailand, GMMTV, the cast, or the production team.
Recent discussions surrounding the costumes, hairstyles, ornaments, and traditional dance elements featured in Scarlet Heart Thailand have raised concerns among Myanmar viewers about their resemblance to Myanmar’s traditional royal attire and cultural practices.
Culture deserves respect, and cultural heritage deserves proper acknowledgment. If elements of Myanmar’s traditional clothing or cultural heritage have been used as references in this production, I respectfully urge GMMTV and the production team to review these concerns seriously, consult qualified cultural and historical experts, and provide clear and appropriate credit to Myanmar.
If the series is to continue airing, I ask that the production team take the following steps:
Review the cultural references used in the costumes, accessories, hairstyles, and dance sequences with qualified historians and cultural experts.
Clearly acknowledge Myanmar’s cultural contribution if Myanmar’s traditional attire or cultural elements have been used as inspiration.
Provide appropriate on-screen credits and official acknowledgments, rather than allowing these cultural elements to be presented without recognition of their historical or cultural sources.
Communicate transparently and respectfully with audiences about the research and cultural references behind the production.
This is not a demand to cancel the series, nor is it an attack on Thai people or Thai culture. Thailand has its own rich cultural heritage, just as Myanmar does. Respecting one culture should never require overlooking another.
Visual similarities alone may not conclusively establish cultural origins. That is precisely why proper historical research, expert consultation, and transparent acknowledgment are important.
If Myanmar’s cultural heritage has contributed to this production, Myanmar deserves to be acknowledged. Cultural inspiration should come with cultural respect and proper credit.
