@c5news: A builder used a spirit level to fend off a man armed with a samurai sword. Aaron Messenbird was caught on video swinging a sword and threatening members of the public in Milton Keynes on 30 July. The 32-year-old approached a small group of people hanging out by a van around 9.05pm, made threats towards them and “raised the weapon in a threatening manner”, Thames Valley Police (TVP) said. Two men then intervened to “protect those present”, one using a spirit level to force Messenbird to flee. During a struggle, one victim sustained injuries to his hands, including a damaged tendon requiring specialist treatment, as well as injuries to his ribs. A short time later, Messenbird was seen walking along Silbury Boulevard while still carrying the sword. He was arrested on 5 August and charged the following day. Investigating officer PC Jordan Buchanan-Kay, of the Central Milton Keynes Neighbourhood Policing Team, said the incident was “violent and unprovoked” and acknowledged the “bravery of the members of the public who intervened and helped prevent this incident from becoming far more serious”. “Their actions undoubtedly contributed to protecting others from harm,” he said, adding that police “always urge people not to put themselves in danger when confronted with somebody carrying a weapon”. #5news #sword
