@nofret_egypt_: Beni Hasan The rock-cut tombs of Beni Hasan, dating mainly to the 11th and 12th Dynasties of the Middle Kingdom (c. 2055–1795 BC), belonged to the powerful nomarchs (provincial governors) of the Oryx Nome and their families. Their remarkably preserved painted decoration provides one of the richest sources for understanding daily life in provincial Egypt. The tombs are famous for their vivid scenes of agriculture, hunting, craftsmanship, music, banquets, military training, and religious rituals. Among the most celebrated are the wrestling scenes in the tombs of Baqet III and Khety, depicting more than 200 different wrestling holds and techniques. These are considered the world’s earliest detailed visual record of wrestling and may have served as a manual for military hand-to-hand combat. Other unique scenes include a caravan of Asiatic traders in the tomb of Khnumhotep II, offering rare insight into Egypt’s contacts with the Levant.
