Most people assume the brain's ability to grow new cells matters less as we age. In this conversation, Dr. Darcie Moore explains why the opposite may actually be true. In younger brains, neurogenesis — the process of generating new neurons — plays a role in things like pattern separation, memory consolidation, and reducing anxiety. And while it's valuable at any age, a younger brain has more to fall back on. The picture changes significantly with age. As Dr. Moore describes it, when neuronal death has accumulated, connectivity between regions has declined, and cognition has already begun to slip, those new cells may be the thing that carries someone from very poor function to still being able to function at all. It's a subtle but important shift in how we think about brain health. Not just what we're building, but what we're protecting against losing. Tune into the full conversation, out now on all major streaming platforms. ▶️ youtube.com/@The.Living.Room.Podcast #TheLIVINGRoomPodcastDarcie-Moore-Why-New-Brain-Cells-Matter-More-With-Age
