50 classrooms, or one cauldron. A senator asked that in 2019. That year the Philippines hosted the Southeast Asian Games, and at the stadium in New Clark City they built a cauldron. It cost about 50 million pesos. Senator Franklin Drilon stood up in the Senate and asked one question. Is it valid, is it just, that we do away with 50 classrooms to build a 50 million peso kaldero. The organisers answered that it was a national symbol, designed by a National Artist, and cheaper than Singapore's. Then the audit came. The Commission on Audit reported over 2 billion pesos released to the organising committee still unliquidated. This July the National Bureau of Investigation reopened the whole thing. In September it said the cauldron may have been paid for twice. The Ombudsman is looking again. The organising committee says the funds were fully liquidated and certified back in 2022, and nothing has been proven against anyone. 7 years on, the kaldero is still standing. So is the question. Please read this part. This is an open investigation and nothing has been proven against anyone. PHISGOC has said publicly that the funds were fully liquidated in March 2022, certified by the PSC and audited externally. We have named no individual official, on purpose. We are not alleging a crime. We are asking the question a senator asked in 2019 that nobody has answered since. Sources: Philstar, Commission on Audit, Daily Tribune, GMA This was Out of Bounds.
