Make a well in the center and pour in warm skim milk and beaten egg, then stir with chopsticks until a shaggy dough forms. Add the softened salted butter, transfer to a floured counter, and knead for 10-13 minutes until the dough is smooth, soft, and stretches into a thin, elastic windowpane. Return to the bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let rise in a warm spot until doubled — about 60 minutes. Punch the dough down, roll it out to about 1.9 cm thick, and cut out donut shapes with a cutter. Don't throw away the little centers — those are donut holes! Cover and proof for another 30 minutes until they're plump and pillowy. Heat oil in a pan to 175°C, gently lower the donuts in, and fry for 60-90 seconds per side until gorgeously golden. Drain on paper towels. While still warm, dip each one in lemon glaze, or fill with peanut butter cream, or shower with crushed peanuts. Take a bite — crisp on the outside, cloud-soft inside, sweet and fragrant, pure happiness in every mouthful. 😋🍩✨
