You did the right thing. The fire alarm was going off, you called the fire department. It’s not your job to figure out if there was an actual fire. It’s crazy that everyone else ignored it 😳

I think they’d rather be safe than sorry. If the alarm keeps going off and you stop trusting it then it’ll end up causing more damage.

Always always check. Dealing 999 is the right choice. Also if the fire alarm is faulty it needs to be reported and checked for when there is an actual fire x

You did the right thing! It's better to be safe. Is there an overall building manager because everyone else needs a reminder that they could in fact be dead right now by ignoring a fire alarm. What is wrong with them? Also, side note, I am am on similar drugs to you and on a similar journey, so sending you good vibes for that!

you absolutely did do the right thing. I had to call them once because my elderly neighbours alarm was going off and his cat was going mad. I was worried he was hurt. 2 fire engines turned up, I lived on tiniest little side street.... neighbour just strolled round the corner after a jolly night at the pub. there was no fire ...I was MORTIFIED! Firefighters told me I'd done the right thing and they would never ever be mad at coming and checking everything was ok!

you absolutely did the right thing! If it would have been a test, you would have been notified. So yes, even tho the signs pointed towards there not being a fire, a faulty fire alarm needs to be checked for safety reasons anyway. Calling the firefighters was the right thing to do, and bc it's a building fire alarm, they have to come with sirens (but if you mentioned there were no signs of fire, they arrive with a bit less urgency lol). If I would have called them, I'd have spoken to them quickly (hey I called, this is the situation, lemme know if you need anything etc). No need to be embarrassed at all 🫶 (sry for the wall of text, blue light services are one of my special interests)

you did right. especially when it's a block of flats. I once had to call them to my flats when the alarm kept going off. turns out there was a roof leak and water was coming into the electrics of the alarm system

To me it sounds like you are definitely equipped for this. You called them and met them and even brought your passport with, which is really a hassle to get a new one of if there really was a fire and it got ruined. You did great!

The apartment building across from my work had a fire alarm that goes off probably once a month. One of my coworkers lives there and he said at this point, he opens his door to see if he can smell smoke and if not, he goes back in.
