@healthspanpodclips: Hannah Fry was told she could have her cervix removed, or everything including her lymph nodes. She says it felt like her treatment "happened to me rather than with me". "That's just a legal answer, not a life answer." From the Doctor Mike podcast. #hannahfry #cancer #health #doctors #patientvoice
Oh Hannah yes! My treatment for a different cancer has left me with lymphoedema but if we were playing the numbers game they would quote my chances of developing it as so low that they wouldn’t worry about it!

My cervical cancer was removed before it got bad, I got so lucky and I don't "feel" like I had cancer. 😳

I didn’t know she had cervical cancer. I had some of my lymph nodes out and I wish I hadn’t. I wish I had stuck with radiation. And I understand fully what she’s saying about not fully owning your cancer decisions. But you get in survival mode.

These are the kind of discussions that should be regularly on TV in prime time. People need to be far less uncomfortable with medical truths. 🖤

These decisions are so difficult, and patients are not informed correctly. For some it may be easier to just give into doctors recommendations. Easier mentally, because doctors care more about the primary disease than quality of life. I'd rather agonize over all the options than be lead down a path I don't understand, and it seems Hannah would be a similar patient

remember when doctors were likeable and admired by most people ?
now they're all as bad and manipulative as car salesmen

Very important that younger women like Hannah Fry open up about their cancer journey. My own battle with breast cancer 9 years ago was a whirlwind and the impact of surgeries and clinical decisions are huge. Well done Hannah. Much love xx

I had breast cancer and it spread to lymph nodes, which were removed. I was told there was a risk of lymphedema but I honestly thought I could prevent it. I got it really soon after surgery. It definitely has an effect on how you feel about yourself as someone only in my 30s but I am still grateful for all my treatment.

So important to talk about the reality of treatment. Often the decisions we’re forced to make are the lesser of two evils 🫠

Alex The Incurable Cancer Man :
I think this forms part of a very important conversation around how everything forever changes for cancer patients, particularly if they overcome it. The scars, both physical and mental, will never leave you. Part of the journey is grieving for the parts of you that you’ll never get back, and the doors that closed to you as a result.

my mum has terminal pancreatic cancer. she has blocked them giving her a 'time' or countdown for how long she has. she's chosen to not have chemo to prolong life.
its been a battle so far just to get the medical staff to allow her to LIVE the rest of her life.
monthly district nurse visits and on visit 2 they were wanting to get a hospital bed installed in the lounge. mum has ZERO symptoms. we're 8 months in and she's still happy, active and living to her fullest. weirdly its the DN that keeps her stuck indoors waiting for them to turn up (and often they don't). everyone is different and mums autonomy has been crucial to her quality of life
