@bearings.travel: Witch Duck Point, Virginia Beach. In 1706 a Virginia court had Grace Sherwood bound thumb-to-toe and put in the Lynnhaven River. She came back up. Exactly 300 years later, the governor cleared her name. #halloween #spooky #virginiabeach #virginiahistory #witchhistory #historytok #hiddenhistory #traveltok
A lot of these “witches” just happened to be women that owned property. 🤔

My GGGGGREAT grandmother. Her husband had passed and she worked the farm in his old pants. She was a looker and apparently filled out those pants, enough to catch the eyes of other male farmers. Their wives didn’t like it and started calling her a witch and it went from there. They made up stories about her and after her trail by “Ducking” she spent seven years in jail. She did get her farm back and lived there the rest of her long life.

Virginia has a extremely dark past. But we only tell you about the warm fuzzy things so you dont know the atrocities that occurred here. Its a beautiful state with a horrid past.

Her statue is at the Sentara bayside hospital if I'm not mistaken. I grew up in the area. I get goosebumps reading this for some reason. 🥺 Poor Grace

Some learned breath control In secret for survival - before they would throw them in the water - we quietly blew all the air out of our lungs - and would sink like a rock - 🌹🌹 they would count just enough time underwater and wiggle back up to the surface to hear their fate - jealousy and hate is an ugly trait to carry -

I don't get it. What was done was done. And governments can erase history whenever they feel like it anyway.
