But with patience, kindness, and treats, this boy has already made incredible progress! ❤️ 🐾 JUST LOOK AT HIS POSITIVE NOTES! ❤️ After patiently offering Kiko treats under his kennel door for several days, a volunteer finally earned his trust enough to take him outside. ❤️ Once outside, Kiko began to relax. He enjoyed sniffing and exploring, stayed close to his volunteer, and wanted to be near her. ❤️ He sits for treats and takes them VERY gently! ❤️ He warms up with treats, solicits pets, and has a loose, wiggly body once he starts feeling comfortable. ❤️ He is treat-motivated, knows “sit,” potties promptly outside, and showed little reaction to the dogs in the play yard. ❤️ His volunteers have seen him make major improvements in a short amount of time. He needs someone who understands that fear can make a dog react defensively and who will allow him to build trust at his own pace. 💔 NOW HE NEEDS SOMEONE TO SAVE HIS LIFE. Kiko is a 5-year-old, 55-pound neutered male who is heartworm positive. His owner surrendered him because of concerns about his behavior around their young child. He has displayed fear-based barking, lunging, and snapping when approached in his kennel, especially around unfamiliar people. Kiko’s previous owner reported that he was crate-trained and had mixed experiences with children and other dogs.
