@torygateuk: The Clock Still Holds Them (For Aberfan, 60 years today) The hands never moved again — rusted and gentle, stopped at the soft edge of morning when laughter still filled the desks and half-term was only hours away. Sixty winters have laid their mist across these Welsh hills, yet the little white flower still leans close to the face of time, as if whispering “We have not forgotten.” Heart of coal and heart of child were buried in the same dark river that day. One hundred and sixteen small pairs of shoes left empty by the door. Twenty-eight grown hearts that would have kept beating if the mountain had only stayed still. And still the clock waits — not in anger, not in blame, but in the quietest kind of love. It holds the exact second when the world cracked open and heaven took more than it should. Yet look: the flower is white. Every year it returns, soft and stubborn, laid by hands that remember the weight of a child’s hug, the sound of a name spoken at dusk. Sixty years, and the valley still sings them. In every silence at 9:15, in every candle that refuses to go out, in every mother who still sets an extra place in the quiet of her heart. The mountain may have fallen, but love rose higher. It rose in the rescuers’ torn hands, in the choir that learned to sing again, in the garden that grew where the school once stood. So let the clock keep its vigil. Let the flower stay. For as long as we place them there — side by side on the cold stone — the children are not gone. They are only paused, safe inside the second that time itself refused to leave behind. Aberfan. 60 years today. Still loved. Still held. Still home. #Aberfan #Wales #welshvalleys #coalboard #coalmining
