@shesninaalexander: Replying to @Kira Obscura | @ladykarasuu In honor of OCD Awareness Month—well, technically OCD Awareness Week—let’s talk about one of the most studied supplements when it comes to OCD: N-acetylcysteine, or NAC. Research suggests that glutamate signaling can be dysregulated in OCD, and NAC has been studied for its ability to help modulate the glutamate system in the brain. It’s also been researched around compulsive and reward-driven behaviors, which is one of the reasons it’s gotten so much attention in this space. Now, NAC is not an OCD treatment and the research is still mixed, so always talk to your medical professional and do your own research. Stay hydrated, be consistent if your provider says it’s appropriate for you—and one more thing: if you open your NAC and it smells like rotten eggs, don’t freak out. NAC contains sulfur, so that smell is completely normal. @MaryRuth's #ocdawarenessweek #ocdawareness #obsessivecompulsivedisorder #adhdinwomen #nac
