@usanm1881: Parts of New Mexico are preparing for their first freeze of the season as a cold front brings colder temperatures across the state. The National Weather Service has issued a Freeze Warning for the Upper Rio Grande Valley, including the Taos area, from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, with temperatures potentially dropping as low as 29°F. A Freeze Watch is also in effect from late Thursday night into Friday morning for the Estancia Valley, Central Highlands, Far Northeast Highlands and Northeast Highlands, where temperatures could fall to 30°F. The Albuquerque metro is not included in these freeze alerts, but colder temperatures and strong winds are expected. A High Wind Watch is in effect for the metro from Thursday evening into Friday morning, with gusts potentially reaching 65 mph in some areas. Residents should protect sensitive plants, pets and exposed outdoor pipes as temperatures drop. VIA: National Weather Service Albuquerque
