I've been saying this since I was in highschool. The only reason this war happened was because the alliance created to directly oppose Russia was getting closer and closer to it's border. Russia, and even Putin have asked multiple times to join NATO, and they were denied. I think they intentionally wanted to start a war to limit Russia's capabilities for financial growth.

These are the same points coming from so many others just like him from the intellectual class of the American masses—for example, John Mearsheimer, who in fact predicted the way things would go even before it had begun; military experts like Colonel Douglas Macgregor and Scott Ritter, all of whom you would have expected to be Russian but are Americans warning, across various American political administrations, of the danger of enlarging NATO toward Russia's borders. Even some Americans in intelligence warned—for example, former CIA director William Burns, who in 2008 was the US ambassador to Russia, understood perfectly that the continued expansion of NATO toward Russia was a call for disaster. He wrote a memo to Condoleezza Rice, who was secretary of state, stating that the entire Russian political class opposed expanding NATO around Russia's borders. But what have US political administrations been doing? The complete opposite—continuing to enlarge NATO until it reached what Russia viewed as red lines: Ukraine and Georgia—and further labeling them with names. Yet what's even crazier is that the US administration has been pushing for more radical measures against a country that holds the biggest nuclear arsenal in the world through Ukraine, while for them thinking or believing these nuclear weapons were invented for showboating. Now today Ukraine is a failed state in anarchy that can't stand on its own without aid from the EU or the USA; almost 30 percent of its land mass has been taken by Russia, and people are dying every day like flies.
