EsmFold2 came out recently (last few months) and while it still is in preprint the model seems comparable to Alphafold3 but much faster. The backbone is a protein language model so I do think there is value to be extracted from llms. The hype just oversells it.

I’m big on Martin Borch Jensen’s approach to fund basic studies that either 1) find new molecules in cells we didn’t know were there or 2) better longitudinal data so we can know biomarkers prior to disease onset, the way BioBanks allow us to discover new targets

Whenever I ask how will this affect healthcare and healthcare workers in the future I’m only ever told not to worry about it. Which seems like a cop out from those who are in their way out anyway
