@climate_news_daily_: October 20, 2026 | France 🇫🇷 On the night of October 20 and throughout Tuesday, heavy downpours struck the south of France, causing widespread flooding in the departments of Bouches-du-Rhône, Hérault, and Gard, as well as in Corsica. In some areas, more than 200 mm of precipitation fell within a 24-hour period. In the Bouches-du-Rhône department, around Martigues, Saint-Chamas, Istres, and Saint-Mitre-les-Remparts, streets, residential neighborhoods, and roads were flooded. In Martigues, water submerged parking lots and urban areas. In Saint-Chamas, the town center and the port area were flooded. In Châteauneuf-les-Martigues, water damaged greenhouses and destroyed a private property wall. In Istres, residents were evacuated due to flooding and the threat of ground movement. Around 200 homes were located in the zone affected by ground shifting, and one house collapsed. The Entressen district was cut off due to flooded access roads. Evacuation measures were also carried out in Port-de-Bouc and Fos-sur-Mer. Train traffic was disrupted, and the A55 highway between Marseille and Martigues was partially closed.
