@earthsignalofficial: October 21, 2026 | Iceland & North Atlantic A powerful North Atlantic storm underwent explosive intensification before sweeping past Iceland on October 14, and NASA has now released the satellite image. The system's pressure plunged by more than 50 hectopascals in 24 hours, roughly double the usual threshold for a "bomb cyclone." A gust of 205 km/h (128 mph) was recorded in southern Iceland, and damaging winds, sleet and snow reached the north of the country. The storm began as Hurricane Isaias, which made landfall in Florida as a Category 2 hurricane on October 9. Its remnants crossed the Atlantic and re-formed as an extratropical cyclone, a different type of storm with a cold core. Some meteorologists say it may have set a new October low-pressure record for Iceland.
