Cultural heritage deserves respect, recognition, and historical accuracy.
If you use Myanmar’s traditional costumes, dances, or cultural elements in a film or TV series, please acknowledge their origins and give proper credit. If these elements are inspired by Myanmar’s rich cultural heritage, that should be clearly stated and represented with respect.
When historical dramas are presented without proper cultural context, international audiences may misunderstand the origins of traditional clothing and dances and assume they belong exclusively to another country.
Cultural exchange is beautiful, but cultural misrepresentation should not be ignored. Every country’s heritage deserves to be respected, and its history deserves to be told accurately.
Please respect the origins. Give proper credit. Acknowledge Myanmar’s cultural heritage.
Our culture is part of our history and identity. 🇲🇲

This may have been an oversight resulting from a lack of careful research by the creators. While the initial intention might simply have been to reference Lanna, Kengtung, or Sipsongpanna—regions that share cultural ties with Northern Thailand—it is possible that the creators lacked knowledge or understanding regarding the traditional attire of the various ethnic groups in Myanmar. I would therefore like GMM to provide a clarification on this matter. Personally, I have a deep affection for Myanmar culture, and I would prefer that this incident not be perceived as an act of "cultural appropriation." 🫶🏼🇲🇲

1. Avoid Misrepresentation: Refrain from presenting cultural elements originating from Myanmar as exclusively Thai or Lanna traditions without solid historical evidence and cultural references.
2.Official Statement: Provide an official clarification and appropriate resolution regarding the cultural similarities and concerns raised over the use of these costumes and dance movements in Scarlet Heart Thailand.

@275:Thai people have always held Burmese culture in high regard. While some television dramasproduced without proper researchmight create the false impression that Thais lack respect for Burmese culture, this is, in fact, not the case at all. There are many excellent dramas that show deep respect for Burmese culture; these projects are often the result of collaborations between Burmese and Thai production teams and have been well-received by audiences in both countries. I hope you will not judge the overall situation based on just a few isolated incidents.
I wish the people of Myanmar success in their demands. There have been instances where a film studio purchased the rights to a Thai novel and produced an adaptation of such poor quality that the author and the fans spoke outonly for the studio to respond with threats of a lawsuit while remaining completely indifferent to their concerns.🙇

The series is said to be set in 13th-century Northern Thailand, and the costumes are said to be Lanna attire. Although the costumes may look similar, they are not the same.
In traditional Thai dress, the shawl is wrapped across the chest, with the fabric draped over the arm. However, as far as I have researched, this style, where the sleeves and chest are connected as seen in the current costume, does not exist in traditional Thai attire.
Although Northern Thai people share similarities and historical connections with the Shan people, none of their traditional costumes feature this kind of square neckline. Instead, their traditional attire is draped diagonally over the left shoulder.
Therefore, this costume is Burmese traditional attire.
