As a Black woman who has been overlooked for promotion twice in favor of colleagues I personally trained, I can speak from experience about the systemic disparities Black women continue to face in the workplace.
The unfortunate reality is that Black women often have to work twice, sometimes three times, as hard just to be considered equally qualified, and even then, our experience, qualifications, and contributions are often not enough.
These disparities are deeply rooted in systemic inequities that far too many organizations are unwilling to acknowledge, much less address. Too often, leadership appears uncomfortable with strong, confident, highly qualified Black women who know their worth, advocate for themselves, and refuse to diminish their abilities to make others comfortable.
