@thebword_za: Apparently, getting married can come with an unexpected question: can your single friends still fit into your life? Dr. K Selikane challenges the idea that marriage automatically creates a divide between women at different life stages. For her, the issue isn't whether a friend is single or married. It's whether there's mutual respect for the lives they're each choosing to live. A good friend can respect your commitment without needing to share it. She can celebrate your marriage without feeling threatened by it, just as you can respect her independence without expecting her to organise her life around yours. But that understanding has to go both ways. Your circumstances may look different. Your financial realities may be different. The things you have time, energy and capacity for may no longer line up as neatly as they once did. And maintaining a friendship means learning to account for those differences instead of assuming everyone can show up in the same way. Maybe the real question isn't whether single and married women can remain friends. It's whether we're willing to make room for one another when our lives no longer look alike. Do you think single and married women can maintain close friendships? What makes those friendships work across different life stages? 🎧 Full episode out now on YouTube (The B Word), According to B podcast and wherever you listen to your podcasts. Within the black community/culture this narrative is rooted in superiority complex, because having single friends is deemed "not appropriate" because she wont understand and give you the necessary marriage advice(Read advice that benefits your husband&oppresses you) but instead give you the unfiltered truth
&helps you work on it.This narrow minded narrative still exists in this day&age and I feel its also attached to frivolous ideologies of "married women will give you the perfect advice&wont be a threat to your marriage

I raised this during marriage counseling. I was honest about keeping my friends through the path into marriage. My friends are the best-married or not. We go way back. 👌
