@history.mysteries_: On June 1, 1946, Romania faced its reckoning. Marshal Ion Antonescu, the country’s wartime dictator, was executed by firing squad alongside Mihai Antonescu, Gheorghe Alexianu, and Constantin Vasiliu. Convicted of war crimes and crimes against humanity, they were held responsible for aligning Romania with Nazi Germany, the persecution of Jews and Roma, and brutal policies in occupied territories. This execution at Jilava Prison marked the violent end of a regime that had plunged Romania into one of its darkest chapters.
