This is the dramatic story of Alex Kibisu, whose case has raised serious questions about security and the administration of justice in Kenya. According to media reports, Kibisu was serving a prison sentence at Kamiti Prison when he was brought to Kibera Law Courts on July 23, 2025, to attend a hearing in a separate robbery-with-violence case. What happened next was startling. Kibisu reportedly escaped by jumping over a perimeter wall near the court cells, despite being in handcuffs. His escape triggered a manhunt and raised questions about how a prisoner under escort could disappear from a court compound. However, this was not his first encounter with the law. In an earlier case involving robbery with violence against three women near Uhuru Gardens in Nairobi, Kibisu and his co-accused, Simon Peter Kimani, were sentenced to death in June 2024. On April 8, 2025, the High Court reportedly reviewed their sentences and reduced them to 20 years in prison. But Kibisu was still facing a separate robbery-with-violence case. Then came another twist. Reports published in September 2026 stated that he was arrested in the Riruta–Kawangware area after an alleged altercation with a matatu conductor over an unpaid fare reportedly led to his detention and identification. On September 28, 2026, Kibisu was reportedly sentenced to death in the separate robbery case. His story has sparked questions about court security, prisoner supervision and how such an escape could have happened in the first place. One important clarification: Although some accounts mention 2001, the earlier robbery case has been reported as involving offences committed in 2023. I could not independently verify claims linking him to a crime committed in 2001.
