@runthisshit8: On May 8, 2025, a Cessna 172E (N5405T) experienced a complete loss of engine power during a cross-country flight near Florida City, Florida. Approximately two hours into the flight, the engine stopped without warning. After unsuccessful restart attempts, the pilots made a forced landing in a swamp, where the aircraft overturned and sustained substantial damage. Investigators discovered that the left fuel tank was nearly empty, while the right tank still contained usable fuel. The NTSB determined that the commercial pilot had likely positioned the fuel selector incorrectly, supplying fuel only from the left tank instead of both tanks, resulting in fuel starvation. Following recovery, the engine was successfully started and operated continuously once fuel was supplied, as shown in this post-accident engine test footage. One pilot sustained minor injuries, while the other was uninjured. There were no fatalities. Footage: NTSB ERA25LA200 #Aviation #Cessna172 #EngineTest #AviationSafety #FuelStarvation

Why would you fire up the engine with a bent prop?

doesn't matter if they removed the prop or not, that engine requires an overhaul, minimum, before it could be flown with again...

All the comments about take the prop off don’t realize most aircraft engines don’t have a flywheel and as a result have to have the propeller to run…..

Seems like something an ex military aircraft maintainer fresh out of his first enlistment who got his A&P would do.
