@bigtreehunters: The fossilized forest in Cairo, New York, is a 385-million-year-old Middle Devonian site discovered in an abandoned sandstone quarry. It is recognized as one of the oldest and most significant fossil forests in the world, pre-dating the nearby Gilboa site. Found in 2009 by scientists from the New York State Museum (led by Charles Ver Straeten) and publicly announced in December 2019 by researchers from Binghamton University, Cardiff University, and the New York State Museum. • Dates back approximately 385 to 387 million years to the Middle Devonian Period. It is roughly 2 to 3 million years older than the famous Gilboa Fossil Forest located about 40 kilometers away. Like and Follow for more 🌲🌳
