this is genuinely so eye-opening bc we’ve normalized applauding women for how gracefully they endure mistreatment rather than questioning why they’re being subjected to it in the first place. It honestly requires reflection bc even well intentioned people applauding resilience and grace reinforces the bullying & abuse happening in the first place

It's like ur life has to be messy and consistently painful and u have to 'endure' as a woman for people to like u 😭....The hate that Mikayla received for leaving her marriage and moving on when she realized things were not working out was so shocking to me.. She received soo much hate for not staying and "suffering" through it...Like people were spiralling and making think pieces cos she seemed happy after the separation😭... We didn't know what she went through behind closed door and the hate only reduced when she shared that she was suffering she just didn't share it... Do you know how crazy that is??? ....

bell Hooks talks about this in “Ain’t I a Woman”; society expects Black women to labor and to be self-sacrificing. We’re expected to fight, to take hits, and to continue fighting. And we’re lauded for it. God forbid we want rest and space to simply exist.

One time, I was hanging out with my coworkers, talking about how hard life in general was, and one of them said “oh Fadhili doesn’t need any help she is a strong independent woman” I never clapped back at a coworker so violently until that point 😭😭😭😭
