Manchester Crown Court heard that Darren Welsby, of Wythenshawe, targeted six child victims over an eight-year period, recording rapes and serious sexual assaults before distributing the footage online. The breakthrough came when Australian police uploaded abuse files to INTERPOL, where specialist investigators matched unique features of the offender's hands and body to adult profiles Welsby operated. National Crime Agency officers arrested him at Manchester Airport, later seizing 10 devices containing more than 30,000 child abuse images at his home. Forensic anthropologists proved Welsby was the man in the videos. Following a trial, a jury convicted him of 18 offences. On Tuesday 20 October 2026, the judge sentenced him to 23 years in prison with a five-year extended licence.
