@libre_001: Apple Stores in France were looted during nationwide protests on October 17, 2026, with stores in Lille and Bordeaux among those targeted. Videos showed looters carrying away Apple products, but the stolen display iPhones had a surprise waiting for them. The devices reportedly locked automatically after leaving the store and displayed messages identifying their original location, stating that they were being tracked and that authorities would be notified. Apple’s demo devices use store-specific security software designed to prevent unauthorised use outside the store. The incident highlights how Apple’s security technology can make stolen display devices difficult to use or resell, even after a store is looted. This is the oldest news ever. Once a display device leaves its Apple Stores WiFi, it will always display that message.

That is actually a security feature, if you take out a display model from the store it would deactivate
