Olive is still super attached to mom (and dad), but lately, she's been super shy and scared around other people. It takes her a while to warm up and get back to her usual bubbly, wild self. I catch myself saying sorry and explaining that she's still very attached to me because she's been with me 24/7 since the day she was born! I don’t know why I always feel like I need to justify her behavior and apologize when really, I’m just her safe space. A lot of you know that I used to hold Olive to sleep every single night, up until recently. Some people warned me that this could lead to her being overly clingy and create bad co-dependency habits, but I decided to embrace it because I knew this phase wouldn't last forever. And about a month ago, she decided she could fall asleep on her own, and I don’t even need to be in the room with her anymore. I saw a post from @Montessori Inspired Mom that talked about how "dependence breeds independence." and it made so much sense. Building a strong attachment and dependence at a young age sets them up to be more independent as they grow. So just like when she used to need to be held to fall asleep, I'm fully embracing this clingy and shy phase, that probably won't last too long anyways. Here's to championing my little girl for just being herself and I’m going to work on not feeling the need to apologize for her behavior! #firsttimemom #momlife #motherhood #motherhoodunplugged #realmotherhood #parenting #positiveparenting #parentingtips #honestmotherhood
