@by.erinmarie: This guy said I’m fear mongering about flame retardants in car seats, so I went through the research… Let’s find out if flame retardants in car seats something to be concerned about 😳😬🤔 Full list of flame retardant free car seats are linked on our Welpr App 💜 just search for “car seats” for our approved list. Sources are linked on screen. 🔗 First, it’s been determined that brands do use synthetic flame retardants in some of their car seats. A 2018 peer-reviewed study found them in 15 of 18 seats, and a 2022 lab test found them in 12 of 22. They’re there to pass a federal flammability test from 1971, but no agency or research group has shown that they actually protect kids in a real car fire. Flame retardants also don’t just stay inside the foam. Researchers find them in the top fabric, and kids with more flame retardants on their hands had more in their urine. But the real question is, are they harmful to your children at car seat doses? And honestly, the data is mixed. The most common flame retardant in cars today, TCIPP, showed up in the air of 99% of cars tested, and it caused tumors in mice and rats. California lists a closely related one, TDCPP, as a carcinogen. Nobody has measured how much a kid absorbs from the car seat alone, which I think is the point this guy is trying to make by saying “we just don’t have the data”. Which is fair. But we also don’t have the data to prove they’re safe….?! So I can say the same thing. So anyone who says these are definitely safe or definitely harmful is overstating it. Dose and context matter, and we just don’t have that answer yet. SO, my perspective, and always my perspective when it comes to anything “non-toxic”, is to err on the side of caution. FR-free car seats have to pass the exact same crash and safety standards, just WITHOUT the use of synthetic flame retardants…. So my perspective is, I’d rather skip on the car seats that contain them and choose one that doesn’t. Crash safety ALWAYS comes first. Don’t throw out the seat you have. This is just so you can make an informed choice next time you buy. 🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼 #nontoxic #nontoxicbaby #babyregistry nontoxicliving #nontoxiccarseats

I normally love Jamie but his comment is wild. No PFAS should be around my children. There ARE flamer retardant free and affordable options in the car seat industry AND he knows this. So how is this fear mongering?

I tend to believe if we don't have enough data we should assume it's not safe rather than assume it's safe...

Wait I thought it was common knowledge that most car seats have flame retardants in them. Thats why car seats that don’t have flame retardants are the green and gentle labeled

I will choose a flame retardant free car seat every single time. But not everyone has that choice. $70 to me is very doable but to others, it isn’t and that’s okay. Any car seat is better than no car seat and there’s no shame in buying one you can afford! If it’s important to you to avoid flame retardants and you can afford them that is amazing!! If you can’t, that’s okay too. As long as your child is protected in the car that is ultimately what matters.

I don’t need data to show they are toxic . It’s common sense
