Ukraine’s central concern is what happens after the fighting stops: Without NATO membership or a firm U.S. security guarantee, Kyiv fears Putin could use any ceasefire to rebuild his military and attack again in the future. Zelenskyy told @foxandfriends he would support freezing the 4½-year war along its current frontlines, leaving Ukraine in control of at least 75% of its remaining territory. That would leave Russia holding its territorial gains without Kyiv formally recognizing them as Russian land. Asked whether he would be willing to give up parts of the Donbas region Russia hasn't taken over, Zelenskyy rejected the idea, calling it “not fair.” He argued that Russia is using military and diplomatic pressure to push Ukrainians off the land it has been unable to take on the battlefield. Zelenskyy insisted that Ukraine be directly involved in any negotiations, saying Kyiv is open to talks in any format. Russia has repeatedly rejected ceasefire proposals, arguing that any pause would give Ukraine time to rearm. The remarks come as White House envoy Steve Witkoff held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg Wednesday. Putin agreed “in principle” to resume trilateral negotiations with the U.S. and Ukraine after Nov. 10. Representatives of the three countries held three rounds of negotiations early this year, meeting twice in Abu Dhabi in January and February, followed by further talks in Geneva in February.
