What is a rising factorial? A rising factorial is a way of multiplying numbers that increase step by step. It means: start with a number, then keep adding 1 and multiply each step. The general form is: x rising n = x(x + 1)(x + 2)... up to n terms --- ### How do you recognize it? In math, rising factorial is usually written using a small bar above the number*(called an overline), like this: x^(rising n) But since that symbol is hard to type or show in videos, you can write it as: x rising n or x^(n) with the word “rising” --- ### Examples: Positive rising factorial: 3 rising 4 = 3 × 4 × 5 × 6 = 360 5 rising 3 = 5 × 6 × 7 = 210 10 rising 2 = 10 × 11 = 110 Negative rising factorial: -3 rising 3 = -3 × -2 × -1 = -6 -10 rising 2 = -10 × -9 = 90 --- ### How it works: • You always start at the given number • Then add 1 each time • Multiply all the terms together --- ### Key idea: Even if the number is negative, you still follow the same rule. So: -10 rising 2 becomes -10 × -9 And since negative × negative = positive, the answer is 90. --- ### Simple way to remember: “Start where you are, move forward, and multiply.” #math #mathtok #mathematics
