The best advice I ever got was only keeping no more than 5 toys out at a time. Store the rest and switch them out when they get bored.

Sensory play. Put him on a play mat. Give him some kitchen utensils. Let him touch and make sounds. Drop to the ground (the utensils, not the baby). Put him under trees and let him look at the branches. My boys were always infatuated with the shadows.
