@komo4seattle: There's a new addition to Washington's endangered Southern Resident killer whale population. The Center for Whale Research said Tuesday that researchers spotted a newborn male orca calf swimming alongside its mother, J35, or Tahlequah, in the J Pod. The calf, designated J65, was first seen Monday and is believed to be less than a week old based on its appearance and previous sightings of its mother. Researchers encountered the pair again the following day and used drone footage to confirm the calf is male. J65 is the sixth documented calf born to J35, who is also known for carrying the body of her dead calf for 17 days in 2018. 🔗 in bio for the full story. #komo #komo4 #komonews #seattle #whale #orca #orcas #killerwhales #ocean #babyanimals #cuteanimal #orcasoftiktok #killerwhalesoftiktok #killerwhalesquad #killerwhale #oceans #babyanimalsoftiktok #babyanimalstiktok #babyanimal #cuteanimals #cuteanimalsoftiktok #cuteanimalvideos #cuteanimalsfyp 📸 - The Center for Whale Research
