I'm a Black woman, and the mother of a beautiful, precious 14-month-old baby girl. Since learning about baby Kohen, I haven't been able to put this grief down. I hold my daughter a little longer now. I listen to her breathe while she sleeps. I watch her reach for me and think of Kohen, who should have had a lifetime of arms reaching back for him. Every milestone she meets reminds me of all the ones he was robbed of. My heart is broken in a way I don't have words for. He was a baby. He was someone's whole world. There is no law, no argument, no justification that could ever make this okay. None. Thank you for your words and your heart.

As a middle age white woman I am confident I could walk out of a Walmart with a box of diapers and NOT BE SHOT. Hell I could walk out with an 85” tv and NOT BE SHOT. If an officer cannot weigh that situation and/or is so blinded by his racism that they can’t react reasonably, then he is not fit for ANY job that is public facing. There is no defense for that officer. None at all. The call was for shoplifting. How do things go so completely to hell from a call for shoplifting? I am disgusted by law enforcement and this country on a daily basis. That officer gets to go home. Gets to keep living. Gets to raise his children. Kohen does not. So much was robbed from that baby and his family.
