Meds haven't had a huge impact on my attention like I'd hoped but I've said forever that the biggest effect I get from my Adderall is my emotions are more even and I feel more awake.

When I got diagnosed in college my psychiatrist literally told me he was surprised I made it that far based on my screening..I graduated HS with honors, scholarships, multiple academic awards, etc 🥲🫠

Note: if it’s behind a paywall, then it’s not compliant with government regulations for federal public access compliance. NIH and other reputable research agencies require public access - so keep that in mind while finding articles!

I've even had male psychiatrists (after already being diagnosed ADHD for 10+ years) try to say my ADHD diagnosis is incorrect, and that it's anxiety and depression. all of the women providers I've seen have never questioned it.

I was diagnosed as Bipolar by a Psychopharmacologist at 8 years old (actually not diagnosable before 18). Long story short, it was ADHD and I was finally properly diagnosed and got treatment at 31

I didn’t get diagnosed until 38…after BOTH of my kids got diagnosed. I wasn’t hyperactive, I was inattentive. I did well in school but at what cost? On meds now and my life is so much better. I grieve the person I could have been.

Rare female here that actually got diagnosed when I was 9. Then, after having a hysterectomy, my troubles with it have gotten worse for sure.

My doctor in high school resisted having me tested because I took a heavy course load above grade level and got good grades. I was doing assignments in the class before they were due, unable to attend certain classes that “annoyed”(overstimulated) me…

Finally diagnosed after having my children as I wasn’t able to “keep up the act” anymore. Was assessed as a child but was told no not adhd but definitely something so was diagnosed with a conduct disorder. My main symptom growing up was emotional dysregulation

Never turned in one lick of homework in all my 5 years of high school. Yes, you read that right. I was held back, only to graduate at the bottom of my class (230 out of 300, maybe?) 😂😂😂 My IQ is embarrassingly high for all that nonsense 🤣

We need to include emotional disregulation in the diagnostic criteria. When my son was little all his ADHD symptoms were brushed aside as probably normal boy toddler behaviour. But he really struggled with emotional regulation - so he was screened for autism. It never felt right to me, he had no repetitive behaviours, and no social issues (the two main areas needed for an ASD diagnosis). He still struggles with emotional regulation but years of OT and ADHD treatment has helped enormously.

I was considered gifted early in elementary school until I no longer could keep up in math then was considered lazy. Depression had long set in. I was diagnosed at 16 for adhd and dyscalculia after I begged my mom to test me.

Every time someone says New England it makes me want a chowder bread bowl. I am twice exceptional or whatever and I have PMDD 🫠 My medications do not work in luteal. I have been monitoring and noting my symptoms. I only get a few okay days a month.

I was diagnosed when I was 32 years old. I have literal elementary school report cards that had notes from teachers about my lack of attention. All my life I’ve had horrible emotional experiences and RSD. Impulse has always been horrible as well. It makes me so sad that so many women are under diagnosed and we often feel crazy because of it.
