@for.the.sake.of.zion: Just outside Damascus Gate sits one of Jerusalem's most unusual attractions: Zedekiah's Cave, the largest man-made underground space in Israel. The huge cave stretches around 300 meters beneath the Old City and was used as a quarry for centuries, including during the First Temple period and the days of King Herod. After a major renovation costing around NIS 60 million, the once-dark and mysterious cave now has illuminated walking paths, new safety systems and a light-and-sound show telling its long history. The site has also become a venue for concerts and cultural events. Families with children are now coming in large numbers, with the underground lighting and show turning the historic cave into a completely different Jerusalem experience. For anyone planning to visit: parking in the area can be difficult. The easiest option is the light rail to Damascus Gate, followed by a short walk to the cave. #jerusalem #damascusgate #oldcity #underground
