During the visit, he met North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, who joined him courtside for an exhibition game featuring members of the Harlem Globetrotters and North Korean players. The two were photographed laughing, applauding and sitting together throughout the game. Kim later hosted Rodman at a banquet, where the former Chicago Bulls player reportedly told him he had a friend for life. Rodman subsequently described Kim as a friend despite the international controversy surrounding the visit.
