My dad, Jamie, passed away unexpectedly, and it's been a really difficult few days for all of us. 💔 There's so much I want to say about him, but I'm just not ready to find those words yet. I want to genuinely thank everyone who has called, messaged or checked in on Mum and our family. The love and support we've received has meant more than I can explain. If there's someone you love and haven't spoken to in a while, give them a call. Even just to say hello. You never know how much those little moments will mean. Love you, Dad. ❤️

From experience: surviving these next few weeks is all anyone can expect from you. Take care of yourself (however that looks). Avoid getting too drunk. Write down everything you want to remember about him. Add to that list as things come up. Put some of his clothes in a couple vacuum seal bags. You’ll want to be able to smell him on the really hard days. You don’t owe anyone anything.

It doesn’t get easier, it doesn’t go away, some days will be easier and some days will not hurt as bad, but you and your family will find strength in each other and that is all the world should ask of you at this time. Remember the good and live in that joy, embrace the sorrow and let yourself feel it. Remembering is the best way to honor him.

I lost my father almost 7 years ago. The grief, while not fresh, is still present. Everything will be a lot for a while. I am very glad you have so much support. Share stories, cry, rage, celebrate. Grief is the purview of the living, as is love.
