NYC’s hidden tea house ⚡️🫖 Tucked away on the border between Lower East Side and Chinatown, Soft Hours Tea House (@softhours.world) opened this spring, and it’s already one of the most peaceful rooms in the city. ⚡️It’s the first tea house from artist Juno Shen (@juno.shen), best known for her neon work, who turned her own daily tea ritual, a way of slowing down and noticing the smaller moments, into a place where everyone else can do the same. Look behind the banquette for a glowing installation by Juno herself, made in the twisted shape that runs through all of her work. 🫖 New York interiors firm Iitem Studio designed the room to feel like a Song Dynasty mountain retreat, with textured plaster walls, basalt and limestone floors and a window cut in the shape of a crab apple blossom. 🫖 Sip on teas that come from all over China, including the green jasmine from Qianwei in Sichuan, made with flower buds picked just before they open, or go for the Wuyi Dahongpao, an oolong from Fujian that’s charcoal-roasted for months until it tastes of toasted chestnut, amber and dried plum. 🥮 The confections were developed with Brooklyn pastry chef Janice Sung, with options like the white sesame scallion scone, the black sesame oatmeal cookie, and a red bean chestnut yokan. 🗓️ There’s a two-item minimum per person for table service and seating is capped at 50 minutes. The space is open from Tue–Fri 12–8pm and Sat–Sun 11am–8pm. Looking for things to do in NYC this weekend? Follow along for more hidden NYC gems! What’s your go-to tea order? Tag a tea lover below!
