i try really hard to do all of these things, i want to be an amazing friend to people around me because i know what it's like to have 'friends' who show none of these qualities, but sometimes i feel like i can't give them my full attention or i'm not fully conscious of how i'm responding. it might be because i have autism but i feel like i lack in some of these areas because i can't focus on multiple things at once so i'm not giving my responses my full thought. so, if you have a friend who seems to try their best to do these then i think they are worth keeping as they care about you, even if they lack some of these sometimes.

This is why i have been with my two best friends since we were kids. We were raised to value emotional intelligence. Over 30 years of friendship .

I think being autistic and raised in an emotionally unavailable environment, I've always longed for someone I can be safe around.
I always feel the need to downplay, hide, or ignore any emotion or thought around people.
and from that need, I learned how to be that safe guy, some sort of "be the change you want to see in the world", but I keep finding myself in situations where I'm always the safe space for others but I have none for me

comparing and one upping isn't the intent. it's fear of being misunderstood. what I'm asking when I'm comparing my own experiencing to yours is, is this the right topic? are we on the same page about what's being talked about?
..
I've been blindsided very often with assuming we're talking about the same thing when we're not and this is the easiest way I know of to confirm that we're on the same page that this is the topic we're talking about
