@nourishingapothecary: In your 40s and suddenly noticing your heart pounding when you get into bed? You’re not feeling anxious, but your body feels like it’s on high alert. This can happen during perimenopause, and it’s something we need to talk about more. Palpitations can feel like fluttering, racing, skipped beats or a really forceful thump. But how strongly you feel your heartbeat doesn’t necessarily tell us what the rhythm is doing. During the day, you’re busy. Once you’re lying still in bed, that heartbeat can become much more noticeable. That doesn’t mean you’re imagining it. Hormonal fluctuations may be part of the picture, sometimes alongside hot flushes or night sweats. Alcohol, caffeine, disrupted sleep and certain medications can contribute too. But we shouldn’t automatically put everything down to perimenopause. Have your periods become heavier? Iron deficiency anaemia could be relevant. Feeling shaky, unusually hot or losing weight without trying? Your thyroid may need checking. New or recurring palpitations deserve a conversation with your GP. Depending on your symptoms, they may recommend blood tests, an ECG or a heart monitor. Palpitations with chest pain, breathlessness or fainting need urgent medical attention. At Nourishing Apothecary, Toni is our naturopath with a focus on perimenopause. She can go through your symptoms, nutrition, sleep and relevant results with you, alongside your medical care. Start with a free discovery call with Toni, have a chat and go from there. Our clinic is in Liverpool, Sydney, and we see people Australia wide via Zoom. www.nourishingapothecary.com #Perimenopause #HeartPalpitations #PerimenopauseSymptoms #WomensHealth #NourishingApothecary
