Look into the accounts written by a Frence Volunteer who was in the SS during the battle of Berlin. Some wild shit to read, the intensity and will to fight just to survive was insane. He didn't have a home to go back too he'd be considered a traitor to France and Germany was fallen essentially. Just pure animalistic instinct to fight and survive

For HOI4 players, a decent comparison might be regular combat vs officer commands. The Heer divisions would stop fighting when their cohesion wore down. The SS almost always continued the fight, whether attacking or defending, and took combat losses instead of withdrawing or tactically re adjusting. This is what I understood at least. Ik im by gonna get clowned for explaining in paradox terms

Huge officer losses make command losses greater in the SS. SS troops frequently took more losses to take the same land the standard army took with less losses. Sometimes fighting harder isn’t smarter. Sometimes glorifying death made death seem like the only option
