@barilawassociates: Illegal working and Immigration Enforcement visits Immigration Enforcement operations in Bradford, Cheshire and York produced several actions. Earlier this week arrests have been made at a Leeds Road hand car wash in Bradford, which received a Notice of Potential Liability; no arrests were made at a second premises. At the former Fiddler’s Ferry power station in Cuerdley, reports differed over whether six or seven Indian nationals were arrested on suspicion of illegal working, and the Home Office said four were detained pending removal. In York, the Home Office sought to revoke a Goodramgate restaurant’s premises licence after a person without permission to work was found there in September 2025; an unpaid £45,000 civil penalty remained outstanding and the operator had entered liquidation. Employers can be fined up to £45,000 per illegal worker for a first breach and £60,000 for repeat breaches, while the Home Office says arrests and raids have risen by 122% and 111% respectively since the general election. In London, at least seven councils: Newham, Lewisham, Lambeth, Hackney, Waltham Forest, Southwark and Haringey said they would cooperate with immigration enforcement only where legally required, despite 2,715 illegal-working visits in the capital in 2025; the London Assembly opposed the approach and the Home Office said information sharing would continue.
