I woke up the morning of my 34 week appointment with a slight headache but just assumed I was dehydrated. At my appointment I had high blood pressure and high levels of protein in my urine. I was asked if I had any of the following: Headaches Blurred Vision Pain under my right breast Extreme swelling I explained the slight headache and thought my swollen ankles and hands were normal. I was sent right to the hospital for monitoring. While there my blood pressure continued to rise. I was asked again if I had any of the following: Headaches Blurred Vision Pain under my right breast Extreme swelling To which I gave the same response I had in my doctors office… just a slight headache and what I thought was normal swelling. Doctors and nurses continued to ask if I was having any of the other symptoms because of how high my blood pressure was. I replied no everytime…. Doctors recommended doing an epidural to see if my body would relax enough for my BP to lower and I agreed. However, it continued to rise and so I was told we would need to do a controlled emergency c-section to keep me and baby safe. I agreed and that’s how my 33w and 6d girl entered the world. I struggled with my BP for 2 years following her birth. A matter of 5 hours passed from the time of my doctors appointment started until my baby was born. I’m currently pregnant with my rainbow baby and my doctors and I are paying much closer attention this time around. ***Know the signs and symptoms so you can keep yourself and baby safe. Attend your prenatal appointments!! Don’t hesitate to advocate for yourself if something feels off or you begin having any of these symptoms. #preeclampsia #preeclampsiaawareness #pregnancy #motherhood #prenatalcare
